• To provide women and families with infant feeding support within a dynamic postnatal ward.
• Support the tongue tie division clinic.
• Deliver bite-sized parent education sessions on the ward around infant feeding.
• Assist the registered midwife or nurse in delivering high-quality, person-centered care.
• Carry out limited clinical observations and undertake activities under supervision by a registered midwife or nurse, once deemed competent.
• Maintain high clinical standards.
• Help maintain a clean and safe ward environment.
• Contribute to providing a safe and caring environment within the department and organisation.
• The post holder may be required to work anywhere within the Trust.
Infant feeding training will be undertaken as per the Maternity Services Training Plan and Needs Analysis for MCA role, along with the Infant Feeding MCA training programme. Competencies will be assessed by the Infant Feeding Coordinator or Specialist Infant Feeding Midwife.
• The primary role for the Infant Feeding Support MCA involves performing tasks after appropriate training, including additional clinical, clerical, and general responsibilities as for Band 2 Maternity Care Assistant.
• Share infant feeding information with antenatal mothers, including the benefits of breastfeeding and the risks of not breastfeeding.
• Assist mothers in caring for their babies, building relationships, and adjusting to motherhood.
• Provide practical support on breastfeeding positioning and attachment for effective feeding.
