Description Role: Deputy Data Protection Officer Department: Data Office, Performance and Governance Location: Carbrook, Sheffield Salary: 42,897 - 47,712 Hours: 37 Contract Type: Permanent Role Purpose: We’re offering an exciting opportunity to step into the role of Deputy to the Data Protection Officer, supporting their vital work. This position focuses on ensuring the organisation remains fully compliant with Data Protection Legislation across South Yorkshire, providing expert advice and guidance. Key Responsibilities: Analyse and risk assess the implications of legislative and regulatory requirements whilst maintaining the integrity of sensitive information and adhering to a principle of openness and transparency. Responsible for dealing with all enquiries from the public, NPCC and any other body in relation to inaccurate information or requests for deletion of information from local and national systems, in line with DP legislation. Deputise for the Data Protection Officer in their absence in the delivery of expert internal advice and external liaison, including providing detailed reports and presentations as required to support the Data Board and force governance requirements. Manage all data breaches within the organisation. This includes the recording of breaches, supporting staff who have reported breaches and those in the area where the breach has occurred. Advising the DPO and SIRO (in the DPO’s absence) of any breaches reportable to the ICO and any learning required, both on a team/area and organisational basis. Handling complex complaints from the Information Commissioner as required (and in support of DPO), and preparation of any material required for court or tribunal cases in respect of Data Protection and Freedom of Information compliance. Support the development and introduction of new policies and procedural instructions following any changes in legislation or national guidance, incorporating their successful embedding in business as usual for the organisation. Develop, implement and monitor policy procedural instructions and administrative system requirements within the Data Protection Team. Work closely with the Risk and Assurance Team and Information Asset Owners with regards to their Data Protection responsibilities and compliance. Ensure, along with the DPO, that Information Asset Owners are accountable for the use and processing of personal data within their areas. Provide advice and information to SIRO, Controller and the Senior leadership team, partner agencies, members of the public, all ranks of police officers and police staff on matters relating to Data Protection and other related legislation. Along with the Data Governance Officer, manage and produce DPIAs, ISAs, Privacy Notices and Data Processing Contracts for the organisation including record keeping and the production of statistical information for strategic use by the DPO. Represent SYP at local, National & Regional meetings, boards and working parties, report to and advise the DPO with regards to any strategic issues or decisions to be made. Deputise for the DPO in their absence on all other Data Protection matters. Skills and experience: Holds a Data Protection qualification, equivalent to an Advanced Data Protection Practitioner Certificate, and at least three years equivalent experience dealing with data protection matters. You will commit to undertake Data Protection Practitioner Certification training if this isn’t already held. Experience of dealing with complex information. Experience of managing a multiple caseload. Experience of working with senior stakeholders across an organisation.
