Key Responsibilities
Clinical and Personal Care
* Provide all aspects of personal care, including washing, dressing, oral care, and grooming, using appropriate equipment such as a stand aid and Oxford hoist.
* Support with toileting, using a commode or urine bottle as required.
* Manage Non‑Invasive Ventilation (NIV), cough assist, and suction equipment confidently and safely.
* Provide airway management and correct positioning to minimise choking risk.
* Support safe eating and drinking, preparing pureed meals as required, and ensuring the patient is upright during all meals.
* Administer medication as prescribed and maintain accurate records of medication administration.
* Monitor and report any changes in the patient's health, behaviour, or emotional wellbeing.
Night Care
* Remain attentive and responsive during the night to assist with NIV adjustments or suctioning if the patient wakes.
* Ensure the patient is comfortable and safe throughout the night.
Emotional and Social Support
* Foster a warm, supportive relationship built on respect, humour, and empathy.
* Engage the patient in conversation and activities that promote emotional wellbeing and reduce isolation.
Mobility and Safety
* Use hoists, stand aids, and other equipment correctly to ensure safe movement and positioning.
* Maintain awareness of pressure area care, ensuring regular repositioning and skin checks.
Household Duties
* Assist with light domestic tasks related to the patient's care and comfort.
* Ensure the care environment remains clean, organised, and safe.
* Respect the family's privacy and home routines.
Requirements
* Essential: Proven experience supporting individuals with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) or similar neurological conditions.
* Proficiency in using NIV, cough assist, and suction equipment.
* Confident in manual handling, including use of hoists and other mobility aids.
* Excellent communication skills, patience, and empathy.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a family home.
* Good record‑keeping and medication management skills.
