Overview
Overall Responsibilities A hard-working, honest, dependable, self-motivated person to act as caretaker at Great Sutton Medical Centre, willing to uphold the ethos and support the vision and values of the organisation. Working alongside our management team, you will support the operations of GSMC by maintaining the building(s), grounds, furniture and equipment so that the service can run smoothly in a clean, safe and pleasant environment. You will take a lead role in health and safety and compliance of the site, ensuring maintenance and work is planned and managed.
Overall
A GSMC Caretaker will use their knowledge and understanding of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and decorating to;
· Understand and demonstrate the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace
· Comply with organisational safety, policies and procedures and identify hazards and reduce them
· Consider safety compliance with a diverse sector of patient groups
· Understand and demonstrate the importance of working safely at height
· Carry out repairs to the fabric of a building, for example repairs to walls, doors, doorframes, skirting boards or plaster damage to internal walls
· Understand and maintain plumbing and drainage systems, for example repairs to WC systems, leaking taps or water testing and unblocking drains dependant on the job and competence
· Maintain high levels of water hygiene within a building
· Understand and maintain electrical distribution, safe repair of electrical installation to legal requirements, for example replacing damaged sockets, plugs, lighting and fuses.
· Understand and maintain plant, safety systems and equipment
· Demonstrate and implement energy, environment and sustainable practices
· Understand and maintain grounds and external fabrication of a building, such as drainage and guttering
· Understand and demonstrate the safe use of hand tools, for example screwdrivers, power drills, pliers, paper strippers and a variety other tools used in plumbing and carpentry
· Demonstrate and understand the importance of the control of resources and stock
· Understand and demonstrate the principles of Planned Preventative Maintenance
· Carry out repairs and reactive maintenance
· Understand the importance of customer service
· Record and report information accurately either internally or externally
Upkeep and general care of the GSMC Estates.
* Carrying out minor repairs to property, fixtures, fittings and equipment, which are not beyond the scope of an unskilled handyman.
* Drawing the attention of the Governance department, to any repairs or maintenance work, which is beyond the competence and responsibility of Caretaking staff .
* Directing workmen and contractors to the sites of repair and maintenance work and inspecting the work of contractors where there is a requirement to sign a satisfaction note.
* General porterage duties and moving of furniture.
* Assisting Colleagues with simple tasks as requested.
* Checking damage/security every morning on arrival at the premises.
* Preparation of meeting rooms for functions as required.
* Receive and check goods and supplies and take them to the appropriate place for storage.
* Ensure that all refuse is disposed of promptly and stored away from the main building.
* Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes.
* Test fire alarms weekly. Maintain test register.
* Report any defects of building, furniture, fittings and equipment to the Governance team
* Grounds Maintenance.
* Regular check of roofs for pooling, debris, plant growth etc.
* Regularly check and clean soffits, bargeboards and external lights.
* Keep all hard surfaces free of moss and weeds.
* Disinfect drains and dustbins regularly.
* Make safe any hazards and ensure that the area is cordoned off.
* Keep paths and entrances free of ice and snow to ensure the safety of patients and colleagues.
Security
* Administering CCTV system.
* Setting of alarm system.
* Responding to, and resetting of, the alarm, liaising with the police and alarm company.
* Checking and securing the premises subsequent to out of hour's intruder alarm activation.
* Register as main Key Holder and be the first point of contact in an emergency callout situation.
* Overall security of the premises including the locking of all windows, doors and gates.
* You may be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security problems, make emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor who may be working on the site.
* Straightening furniture and general tidying up of designated areas.
Experience
* Proven experience in maintenance roles, with a strong understanding of facilities systems.
* Familiarity with programmable alarms and systems
* Previous experience general handyman services
* Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact positively with clients and staff alike.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £12.30-£12.95 per hour
Expected hours: 12 – 20 per week
