Overview
The band 6 Mammographer will play a key role in delivering a high‑quality, efficient breast screening and diagnostic imaging service within the Breast Unit. The postholder will perform the full range of mammographic procedures independently, applying professional judgement and technical expertise to produce accurate diagnostic images while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and dignity. They will provide clear explanations to patients, assess clinical needs, adapt techniques to individual circumstances, and give provisional reports on screening mammograms in line with established protocols.
This position requires a motivated professional who can combine technical excellence with compassion, clear communication and teamwork. The successful candidate will champion continuous improvement, maintain CPD, and actively support the Trust’s values of respect, collaboration and patient‑centred care.
Responsibilities
* Independently carry out the full range of mammographic procedures for both the NHS Breast Screening Programme and the symptomatic breast service.
* Provide clear explanations to patients and maintain dignity of care throughout the examination.
* Offer clinical guidance to colleagues and supervise radiographers, students and assistants.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and support the Superintendent Radiographer with operational efficiency.
* Participate in clinical audits, service improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety standards, and radiation protection legislation.
* Maintain CPD and stay updated with professional guidelines and best practice.
Qualifications and Experience
* Current state registration.
* Certificate of competence in Mammography.
* DCR(R) or BSc Radiography.
* Participation in CPD programmes.
* Experience of NHS breast screening programme.
* Experience of clinical audit.
Knowledge & Awareness
* Knowledge of radiation protection legislation.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.

* High standard of practical radiographic skills.
* Ability to work effectively within a team.
