Locum Consultant Oncologist

University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting to 12m NHS Locum Consultant Oncologist, to join their dynamic team. The successful post holder will join an innovative team of Consultant Oncologists and specialist Oncology care. Tumour site sub‑specialities can be discussed at interview, however experience in hepbil, upper GI and colorectal is favoured. The post holder would be responsible for independently running clinics, prescribing treatment using the Trusts PICS system, undertaking ward rounds and MDT.

Job responsibilities

Duties of the post

The site specialist interests will be agreed on acceptance of the post but will require specialist oncology interests.

Clinical

The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of upper GI, hepbil and colorectal. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop disease‑specific areas of interest, working alongside the current Oncology team. In keeping with the department’s ambition as a teaching hospital, the appointee will have the opportunity to engage in research and would be encouraged to utilise world‑class expertise based on Campus within the University of Birmingham (UoB), the Cancer Research Clinical Trials Unit and the Institute for Translational Medicine to progress the research strategy under the umbrella of Birmingham Health Partners.

The appointee will participate in the attending and on‑call rota, supported by and working with clinical team’s trust‑wide. They will be responsible for managing a cohort of inpatients and providing specialist liaison advice.

The appointee will be expected to participate in number of clinics per week, predominantly dealing with their respective sub‑specialties as per job plans, but also consideration for other sub‑specialist workload could be considered, depending on applicant’s experience to date. The delivery of outpatient activity will include opportunities to support clinical trial recruitment and PI roles within the department.

There will be the integrated weekly multidisciplinary team meeting, plus monthly quality meetings, educational sessions, journal clubs and mortality and morbidity meetings.

For the ward attending commitments, the appointee will be expected to provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
