The Opportunity
We here at Guided Talent are recruiting on behalf of a rapidly growing specialist engineering business within the HVAC and temperature control sector.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Specialist Engineer with a strong commercial background to support installations, servicing, and breakdown response across a range of temporary heating and cooling systems.
This role will suit someone who thrives in a reactive hire environment and enjoys working on complex plant equipment across varied sites.
The Role
You will work alongside an experienced engineering team delivering installation, commissioning, servicing, and fault finding on commercial boiler and chiller equipment.
When not on site, you will be depot-based supporting preparation, maintenance, and planning activities.
The role will involve occasional stay aways (typically 1–2 nights) to support complex installations.
Key Responsibilities

Lead installation, servicing, and maintenance of temporary boilers and air-cooled chillers
*
Work on commercial mechanical pipework and plant room systems
*
Fault find on commercial boilers and forced draft burners
*
Work with gas and oil systems (600kW to 2MW)
*
Service chilled water systems and AHUs
*
Diagnose faults on HVAC equipment and control systems
*
Modify existing pipework within plant rooms
*
Respond to breakdowns and emergency call outs
*
Support depot activities when not attending site
*
Ensure high standards of safety, quality, and customer service
Skills & Experience Required
*
Strong commercial HVAC or mechanical building services background (not domestic)
*
Experience with forced draft burners and BMS systems
*
Experience working with boiler sizes from 600kW to 2MW (gas/oil)
*
Experience in a reactive or hire environment highly desirable
*
Understanding of the hire industry and reactive work nature
*
Knowledge of commercial LTHW systems
*
Experience with chilled water systems and chillers
*
Understanding of electrical services and control wiring
*
Strong teamwork mindset with proactive approach to safety and performance
*
Ability to work long hours when required and in varying weather conditions
*
Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away
Qualifications
*
Commercial Gas Safe (preferred)
*
F-Gas Refrigeration certification (preferred)
*
BMS experience desirable
*
Full clean UK driving licence
Working Pattern & On-Call Structure:
Standard Working
Yard work Monday to Friday 08:00–17:00 — standard day rate
Site work typically leaving 07:00 returning 18:00 — standard pay + 2 hours
Out of Hours (Mon–Fri)
05:00–07:00 and 18:00–22:00 — 1.5x hourly rate
22:00–05:00 — 2.0x hourly rate
Weekends (when required)
05:00–22:00 — 1.5x hourly rate (minimum 8 hours)
22:00–05:00 — 2.0x hourly rate (minimum 8 hours)
