Job DescriptionLead Electrical Engineer
Role Overview & Purpose
The Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for the hands‑on delivery of all planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) and reactive works. This is an active, site‑based role requiring strong technical capability alongside leadership and coordination responsibilities.
The role involves managing and supporting a multi‑disciplined engineering team on a day‑to‑day basis, ensuring consistent operational delivery through effective planning, clear communication, and efficient task execution.
The Lead Engineer is accountable for ensuring:
* All planned works are delivered as scheduled
* Remedial works identified through PPMs are captured, completed, and closed via the CAFM system
* The quality of completed works meets contractual and compliance standards
The role requires close cooperation with contract and project staff to achieve employer acceptance in line with agreed contract terms.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver PPM and reactive maintenance works in a hands‑on capacity
Manage all subcontractor activity in line with the annual planner
Review the quality of work completed and ensure all remedials are actioned and closed
Monitor and support engineers’ requests for materials and parts to ensure timely task completion
Liaise with Project Managers and work originators to arrange delivery and collection of materials and consumables
Produce non‑commissioning documentation as required, including technical and defect reports
Attend meetings as required by line management
Review shift rotas to maintain minimum engineering cover and plan foreseeable shift cover in advance
Assist with the preparation of monthly reports and deliver Toolbox Talks in line with the annual planner
Ensure Toolbox Talks are signed, recorded, and filed correctly
Carry out regular reviews of logbooks and statutory compliance documentation in line with audit schedules
Escalate all compliance or safety issues immediately to the Contract Manager
Reduce risk of accidents through correct use of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and PPE
Complete weekly timesheets accurately and submit within required deadlines
Complete Minor Works Certificates and Electrical Installation Certificates following any electrical works or alterations
Health & Safety
Take full responsibility for personal health and safety on site
Adhere to Method Statements and Risk Assessments at all times
Highlight and escalate any site‑specific risks or safety concerns immediately

Strong leadership and organisational capability
HVAC and Building Services engineering experience
Technical Skills & Qualifications
City & Guilds / NVQ in Electrical Installation, Maintenance or Building Services Engineering
IPAF and PASMA
Competent in Microsoft Office and Building Management Systems
Knowledge of F‑Gas regulations (City & Guilds)
NVQ / City & Guilds in Air Conditioning and/or Chillers
Manufacturer training and product knowledge (desirable)
Minimum of 2 years’ field‑based service and fault‑finding experience
