Job Summary
An exciting opportunity now exists for a Nurse Practitioner position within the Ophthalmology Urgent Care. Applications are invited from registered nurses who are confident in the autonomous management of patients who have sustained a minor injury or illness.
This is a great opportunity for the right applicant to receive training and support in becoming an Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner in Ophthalmology. The successful candidate will be supported and allocated a clinical supervisor, with opportunities to attend teaching sessions, develop clinical skills and undertake further academic study. The ideal candidate will have an interest in Ophthalmology and be driven to become a qualified nurse practitioner with a focus on patient care and learning to develop skills as a Nurse Practitioner. Ideally you should be competent in autonomous assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment of minor injury.
Main duties of the job
To act as a Nurse Practitioner within agreed Trust guidelines and local policies and protocols for the best outcome of nursing care. To assist in the development and implementation of Directorate policy and nursing strategy and Nurse Practitioner competencies. To act as an expert resource and facilitator to educate and train other healthcare professionals as required. Will be the Senior nurse for urgent care in the absence of the Senior Sister Urgent Care Lead.
To promote patient care quality through autonomous practice, supervision, and mentorship, and to support junior nurses and bank/agency staff in the clinical setting.
To develop and share best practices, improve infection prevention and control, and undertake manual handling assessments. Day-to-day direct supervision of a team of patients and staff.
Responsibilities
* Providing and delivering a high standard of nursing care by initiating and coordinating the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating of individual patients' needs based on evidence. This includes all aspects of care from admission to discharge.
* Reporting and documenting all relevant nursing/patient needs, communicating changes with other health care professionals in the multidisciplinary team with ongoing responsibility for patient care as they occur.
* Promoting and delivering health education within the clinical area and advising patients, family, and others on health promotion issues.
Undertaking patient triage, undertaking clear assessment of patient health in the acute ophthalmic setting following best practice guidance by telephone and face to face. Making safe and appropriate decisions. Demonstrating and undertaking evidence-based practice, and contributing to the introduction of evidence to improve patient-centred care. Supervising, assessing, mentoring and supporting junior Registered Nurses and health care professionals, including bank and agency staff in the clinical setting. Increasing knowledge and skills within the Department/Directorate by sharing best practice and supporting others to develop. Implementing and sharing good infection prevention and control practice. * Demonstrable experience working within an urgent care department setting
* Demonstrable experience of working within an Ophthalmic setting
