General Surgery Senior Clinical Fellow (Abdominal Wall Reconstruction)
Role at NHS Scotland, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE). Fixed term, full time (48 hours per week) post based in Royal Infirmary from 1 August 2026.
We are looking for a post‑CCT (or equivalent) trainee or a surgeon towards the end of training to gain experience in advanced open and laparoscopic management of abdominal wall hernias.
Required training: adequate previous training in open and laparoscopic hernia surgery and support from current trainers as to their suitability for advanced training in abdominal wall surgery.
Responsibilities:
* Perform advanced open abdominal wall hernia repairs (Rives‑Stoppa, TAR, peritoneal flap, preperitoneal repairs).
* Execute laparoscopic procedures (TEP/ETEP/TAPP for groin, midline, incisional hernias; Pauli repairs for parastomal hernias).
* Collaborate with local colorectal and urology teams.
* Develop competencies in TEP groin hernia repair.
Qualifications:
* Post‑CCT or equivalent.
* Experience in open and laparoscopic hernia surgery.
* Support from current trainers.
