Job Overview
We are looking for a Band 4 Assistant to join the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team. The role involves working alongside a multidisciplinary group of paediatricians, clinical psychologists, neurodevelopmental specialists and practitioners in speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, children's nursing, learning difficulties, child development and mental health. The assistant will support the team’s assessment pathway, conduct assessments under supervision, attend diagnostic meetings, liaise with parents and carers, and manage a varied clinical administrative workload.
Responsibilities
* Support the assessment pathway by undertaking assessment work in clinics, educational placements and other community settings across the area.
* Work independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to meet the needs of children and families.
* Write assessment reports, attend diagnostic meetings and liaise with other professionals.
* Manage a busy but varied workload, maintaining excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
* Communicate verbally and in writing with parents, carers and agencies in a professional manner.
* Carry out varied clinical administrative duties and use IT systems proficiently.
* Use own initiative to adapt communication and therapeutic approaches to children with neurodiversity and additional needs.
* Maintain confidentiality and comply with child protection procedures.
* Keep full driving licence and reliable vehicle access to travel to community sites.
Qualifications – Essential
* Level 2 numeracy or literacy skills – GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent.
* Evidence of relevant training or courses.
Qualifications – Desirable
* Foundation degree in health and social care, childcare or a related field.
* Experience working with children with disabilities, Autism or ADHD and supporting families.
* Understanding of typical child development and statutory support avenues (e.g. EHCP).
* Working knowledge of child protection procedures.
* Excellent observation skills to identify atypical development.
* Good verbal and written communication skills, basic IT skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
* Motivation for the role, willingness to attend further role‑specific training.
* Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work practices.
* Team‑working ability, confident and able to recognise own limitations.
