Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Assistant will support clinical staff by delivering high-quality patient care and carrying out essential health checks and procedures. Key responsibilities include- this list is not exhaustive:

* INR review monitoring and recording patient INR results for anticoagulation management.
* LD check assisting with learning disability health checks.
* MH check conducting and recording mental health physical checks.
* SMI check supporting severe mental illness health reviews.
* Phlebotomy taking blood samples for diagnostic purposes.
* ECG performing and recording electrocardiograms.
* NHS Health Checks delivering routine health assessments (BP, BMI, lifestyle advice).
* Vaccinations administering certain vaccines as directed by protocol.
* Clinical System Knowledge proficient in using EMIS for patient records and data entry.

The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

The following are few core responsibilities ofthe Healthcare Assistant in delivering health services. There may be, onoccasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent uponfactors such as workload and staffing levels

Consultwith patients and their families to undertake assessments of patient need

Deliver andassist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, healthpromotion, long-term condition management and patient education

Bean integral part of the general practice team

Provideclinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals withinthe organisation

Deliverbasic clinical care interventions under supervision, supporting continuity ofcare and patient safety initiatives

Ensurespecimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Providesupport during minor operations as required


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* Has worked in a primary care environment
* Understanding of infection prevention and control measures


Knowledge

* Ability to undertake patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse and BMI etc.
* Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to colleagues
* Clinical IT system user skills and the ability to record accurate clinical notes


Qualifications

* Has completed the Care Certificate
* proof of any courses or training qualifications commensurate with the post
* Has used Emis clinical Software
* Has worked in a primary care environment
* Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
* Able to perform venepuncture
* Broad knowledge of clinical governance
