Job summary

We are a busy, friendly GP practice with alist size of approximately 8,200 patients, seeking a motivated, organised, andapproachable Medical Receptionist to join our team at Layton Medical Centre

The successful candidate will be the firstpoint of contact for our patients, providing a professional and welcomingservice both in person and over the phone. Responsibilities include managingappointments, handling patient enquiries, processing repeat prescriptions, andsupporting the clinical team with general administrative tasks.

Excellent communication skills, a calm andcaring manner, and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-pacedenvironment are essential.

This is a part-time role, working 16 - 20 hoursper week,We are looking for a friendly, reliableteam player who is committed to delivering excellent patient care as part ofour supportive practice team.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Receptionist plays a key rolein ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. Main duties include:

Booking and managing patientappointments, both over the phone and in person.

Handling patient queries in aprofessional, confidential, and compassionate manner.

Processing administrative tasks fromclinicians including messages, test results, and referrals.

Managing repeat prescription requestsaccurately and efficiently.

Signposting patients to the mostappropriate healthcare professional or service, including external serviceswhen necessary.

Registering new patients and updatingpatient records in accordance with practice protocols.

Supporting the clinical and admin teamswith general administrative duties as required.

Maintaining patient confidentiality andworking in accordance with data protection and practice policies.

To provide a high-quality, professionalreception and administrative service to patients, doctors, and other members ofthe practice team. The role involves being the first point of contact forpatients, providing excellent customer service, managing appointments, andsupporting the clinical team with a variety of administrative tasks.
Main Responsibilities:
Greeting and assisting patients in acourteous and efficient manner.

Booking, amending, and cancelling patientappointments using the clinical system.

Handling patient queries bothface-to-face and over the telephone.

Processing repeat prescription requestsin line with practice protocol.

Managing and actioning tasks assigned byclinicians.

Signposting patients appropriately toclinical staff or external services.

Registering new patients and maintainingaccurate patient records.

Handling incoming and outgoingcorrespondence.

Supporting the wider administrative teamwith general office duties.
Safeguarding Responsibilities:

All staff have a responsibility to protectand safeguard vulnerable individuals, whether they are children or adults.Medical Receptionists must be familiar with the practice's safeguardingpolicies and procedures, attend relevant training, and report any concernspromptly to the safeguarding lead or line manager.
