Burnley Group Practice is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and conscientious Medicines Co-ordinator to join our new Medicines Management Team. This is an exciting new role and will play an important role supporting patients with prescription requests and queries.

On a day to day basis, you will be the first point of contact for patients requesting prescriptions, preparing these for issue and, where appropriate, synchronising items on repeat prescription. You will be integral to the Medicines Management Team and support other members with repeat dispensing and medicines optimisation.

You must feel comfortable with technology and with change since the NHS is required to constantly change to meet the emerging needs of our population. You will have a calm, confident and helpful manner, excellent communication skills along with the ability to problem solve and work under pressure. You will be educated to a good standard and must have excellent IT skills.

The role is offered over 30 hours per week to be worked between 8am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday. Flexibility will be required to cover periods of sickness and annual leave.

Successful candidates will be required to complete a 3 month probationary period. Other employment benefits include 6 week's annual leave and free car parking (off-site at St Peter's Centre).


Main duties of the job

Working as part of the Medicines Management Team, the postholder will be responsible for processing prescription requests as well as providing administrative services to support repeat dispensing and medicines optimisation. The Postholder will work adhering to relevant policies, Protocols and SOPS ensuring patient records are accurately maintained.

The Postholder will be the first point of contact for all prescription requests and medication queries received via telephone, email, AccuRx and other formats. Key to this will be checking repeat items and, where appropriate, synchronising items on repeat prescribing.

Job responsibilities

1. Be the first point of contact for all prescription requests and medication queries
2. Manage and action prescription requests received via telephone, email, AccuRx and other formats in line with practice policies
3. Check that all repeat prescription items are due to be issued
4. Ensure requests for medication items not on repeat prescription are managed in line with practice protocols
5. Where appropriate, ensure synchronisation of items on repeat prescription
6. Process requests for emergency prescriptions in line with practice SOPs
7. Support colleagues with queries where appropriate
8. Support the Pharmacy Technician with administration of shared care protocols
9. Identification of patients suitable for repeat dispensing, passing on to the Pharmacy Technician for action
10. Work with the Pharmacy Technician, ensure patients receive timely and appropriate monitoring and medication reviews
11. Support Pharmacy Technician with the administration of the Eclipse System
12. Liaise with local pharmacies
13. Communicate effectively with patients via digital and non-digital platforms
14. Participate in clinical and practice audits, running searches and providing data as necessary
15. Participate in quality initiatives and project work as required
16. Participate in medicines optimisation work as required
17. Participate in Significant Event Audits
18. Attend practice meetings as required


Skills and Knowledge

* Use of EMIS system
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Word
* Keyboard skills for regular use of computer systems
* Confident working with people both face to face and via the telephone
* Understanding of and ability to maintain patient confidentiality
* An eye for detail and accuracy
* Mental and emotional resilience to deal with demands of role
* Knowledge of Medicines Optimisation Scheme
* Knowledge of Eclipse


Experience

* Experience working in a primary care setting with direct patient contact
* Knowledge of medication and medical terminology
* Able to process prescription requests received in all formats
* Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

* Confident with delegated responsibility
* Flexibility to meet the needs of the business


Qualifications

* Good level of education with GCSE English and Maths at Grade 5 or above (or equivalent Grade)

£12.80 to £13.64 an hour Equivalent to AfC Band 3 subject to experience
