The Role: Part-Time School Caretaker (12 PM - 6 PM)
As our School Caretaker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and smooth operation of our school premises during the afternoon. You'll be responsible for general maintenance, minor repairs, security duties, and supporting the school's daily activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Security: Locking and securing the school premises at the end of the day, including all gates, doors, and windows. Operating alarm systems.
General Maintenance & Repairs: Performing minor repairs (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical checks within competence), replacing light bulbs, unblocking drains, fixing furniture.
Health & Safety: Conducting regular checks to ensure a safe environment, identifying and reporting hazards, assisting with fire alarm tests and drills.
Cleaning & Tidiness: General tidying of indoor and outdoor areas, ensuring corridors, communal spaces, and entrances are clean and presentable. Overseeing external cleaning contractors where necessary.
Grounds Maintenance (Light): Litter picking, ensuring pathways are clear, basic tidying of external areas.
Deliveries & Porterage: Receiving deliveries, moving furniture and equipment as required for school events or classroom changes.
Responding to Issues: Addressing urgent maintenance or security issues that arise during your shift.
Liaison: Working closely with teaching staff, administration, and external contractors.

Essential Requirements:
Reliability & Punctuality: Crucial for a fixed afternoon shift.
Practical Skills: Competence in basic DIY, general maintenance, and minor repairs.
Proactive Approach: Ability to identify issues and take initiative.
Attention to Detail: Ensuring high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Communication Skills: Able to interact professionally with staff, students, and visitors.
Physical Fitness: Capable of undertaking duties that involve lifting, bending, and manual tasks.
Commitment to Safeguarding: Understanding the importance of child protection in a school environment (DBS check required).
Availability: Ready for an ASAP start, Monday to Friday, 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM (30 hours per week, term-time plus holiday work may be required).Desirable (but not essential):
Previous experience as a school caretaker, site manager, or similar role.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to schools.
