Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Accounts Manager / Financial Controller to take ownership of the company's financial operations. This is a hands-on part-time role suited to someone confident in managing day-to-day accounts, ensuring compliance, and providing clear financial reporting to the Managing Director.
You will be the key point of control for financial matters in the business, working closely with our external accountants and supporting the leadership team with accurate, timely information.
Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day accounts using Xero (purchase and sales ledgers, reconciliations, cashflow).
* Ensure CIS compliance (verification and deductions for subcontractors).
* Process supplier invoices, subcontractor payments, and staff expenses.
* Prepare monthly management accounts, profit & loss, and project cost tracking.
* Support payroll administration using Sage Payroll.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns and other HMRC submissions.
* Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
* Act as the main contact for external accountants, auditors, and HMRC.
* Provide financial reports and recommendations directly to the Managing Director.
Skills
* Proven experience as an Accounts Manager, Financial Controller, or similar role (ideally in construction/contracting).
* Strong knowledge of CIS and UK construction accounting practices (essential).
* Proficiency with Xero (essential) and Sage Payroll.
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Ability to work independently and take responsibility for financial controls.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial matters clearly to non-finance colleagues.
* Experience with international subsidiaries or cross-border compliance would be hugely beneficial, as we are expanding into multiple foreign markets.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £18.00-£25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
