New Permitting Manager Job – Avonmouth, Bristol A senior-level opportunity has arisen for an experienced Permitting Manager to support a major nuclear fuels manufacturing project in Avonmouth, Bristol. Based in Avonmouth, the Permitting Manager will work closely with the Safety and Licensing Manager, engineering teams, and regulatory bodies to deliver robust environmental assessments and secure necessary environmental permits for all phases of the project. Key Responsibilities – Permitting Manager, Avonmouth, Bristol: * Develop and implement an environmental assessment strategy, including permitting arrangements and governance plans tailored to the project’s lifecycle. * Author technical specifications for environmental baseline studies and reports required by regulatory authorities. * Conduct and review predictive (modelled) and retrospective (monitored) environmental and radiological assessments. * Collaborate with technical specialists, engineers, and operations teams to gather data essential for accurate environmental impact analysis. * Identify and advise on systems and features essential to environmental protection across the Avonmouth site. * Lead or contribute to HAZOPs, HAZIDs, HASANs, and Design Reviews to ensure environmental compliance is fully integrated into project design. * Manage the environmental change control process during construction, ensuring continued compliance with evolving site conditions. * Provide expert guidance to senior leadership and project stakeholders on all environmental matters. * Represent the project in communications with the Environment Agency (EA), Local Planning Authorities (LPA), and other regulatory bodies. * Facilitate environmental workshops, training, and Best Available Techniques (BAT) optioneering exercises. Experience & Profile – Permitting Manager, Avonmouth, Bristol: * Minimum 7 years’ experience delivering environmental impact assessments, with strong authorship and stakeholder engagement skills. * At least 4 years’ experience managing consultants, developing assessment methodologies, and defining scopes of work. * Expertise in one or more environmental areas, such as aqueous or gaseous discharge, radiological contaminants, ecology, or soil conditions. * Familiarity with environmental assessment governance, regulatory interaction, and challenge/review processes. * Previous experience with nuclear fuel cycle projects (e.g., enrichment, fuel fabrication) is highly desirable. * Holds a Master’s degree in a relevant environmental, scientific, or engineering discipline.
