Graduate Development Programme
The two‑year Graduate Development Programme is designed to sharpen personal, leadership and technical skills. You will support the design team, rotate through projects, receive mentorship, structured training and the opportunity to work towards Chartership. Projects may span nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels across the UK.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Design team with project delivery, supporting multi‑disciplinary design and assessment.
* Produce mechanical design layouts that are cost‑effective and meet specification requirements.
* Monitor design costs and provide engineering services that fit within the agreed allowance.
* Maintain accurate files and records throughout contract duration.
* Create clear, well‑presented reports, specifications and other engineering documentation.
* Prepare and manage design risk assessments.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Relevant engineering work experience.
* Passion for Costain’s Carbon Net Zero targets.
* IT proficiency.
* Accuracy and attention to detail.
* Willingness to learn and adapt.
* Excellent communication, networking and relationship building.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Empathy and inclusive communication skills.
* Strong organization, communication and time‑management skills.
* Mobility to work across the UK during the 2‑year programme.
Additional Information
Security clearance (Security Check or higher) may be required. You must be a legal UK resident for a minimum of 5 years and able to pass the vetting process.
Qualifications
* Holder or candidate for a Bachelor's degree (2:2 or above) in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
* Eligible to work in the UK.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites, including remote locations.
* Flexibility to spend time in other offices and sites as part of the programme.
* Required to provide passport or right‑to‑work documentation at interview.
