Overview
Speech and Language Therapist required at Higford School, Shropshire. Join a multidisciplinary clinical team to deliver bespoke Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention to pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neurodivergent, or have SEMH needs. You will work within the OFG Speech and Language Therapy Ways of Working to guide practice in an education setting, hold a Speech and Language Therapy caseload with support from a designated clinical supervisor and site lead, and contribute to staff training and consultation as required. This post supports staff growth and pupil independence, with opportunities to develop within a supportive network and to participate in research projects and professional development activities. The role offers flexible working considerations within the context of term time and core school hours.
Responsibilities
* Deliver bespoke SLT assessment and intervention to pupils within an education setting, in collaboration with the education team.
* Hold a defined SLT caseload with supervision, ensuring high standards of clinical practice and safeguarding.
* Contribute to staff training and consultation as required, and participate in multidisciplinary teamwork.
* Support pupils to develop independence and achieve positive outcomes, using person-centred approaches.
* Help develop the enhanced SLT offering, supporting apprentices, students and therapy assistants as appropriate.
* Engage in continuous professional development to meet CPD goals (a £2,000 training allowance is available after probation).
Essential Criteria
* Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* HCPC registered
* 1-2 years experience as a fully registered member of the RCSLT in a similar setting
* Experience engaging with individuals with complex and diverse communication profiles
* Some knowledge of neurodiversity and trauma-informed practice
* Experience of multidisciplinary working across settings
* Experience of communicating with/working with families, relatives and carers
* Interest in developing knowledge in different areas of SLT practice
* Good relationship-building, analytical and judgmental skills; good oral and written communication
* Good time management and organisational skills
* Competence in core areas of SLT practice and understanding of RCSLT Communications Standards
* Knowledge of SLT assessment tools, intervention types, and ability to formulate support plans based on needs
* Understanding of relevant legislation for clinical practice and professional management
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
* Willingness to attend training and work towards further qualifications relevant to the client group
Desirable
* Understanding of sensory and motor differences affecting communication
* Understanding of arousal and its relationship to communication
* Full driving license and access to a car
