Job Title: Planner

Reporting to: Project Director
Business Unit: Renewables Scotland

Role Purpose

The Planner’s role will be to support the Transmission and Substations Business Units in the successful delivery of small to large‑scale projects for blue chip clients through effective program management techniques and support to the Project Management Organisation (PMO).

Responsibilities & Duties

1. Create and maintain projects through tender, design, construction and close‑out phases.

2. Update programs at the required frequency and provide PMO with realistic and accurate forecast programs.

3. Support PMO with the development, control, monitoring, analysis and reporting on schedule‑related aspects for designated projects within a portfolio.

4. Establish and monitor a cost‑ and resource‑loaded, logic‑linked baseline plan for the project in accordance with Program Office processes.

5. Capture project budgetary costs and resources in the plan to determine time phasing of expenditure and the total project budget.

6. Establish robust Work Breakdown and Project Control Structures in terms of project scope, in accordance with Investment Delivery processes, templates and procedures.

7. Interface with other departments regarding the project’s activities which may have an impact and ensure these are correctly captured.

Qualifications and Experience

It is essential that the successful candidate is an excellent communicator with all stakeholders (internal and external), a commercially focused self‑starter with the enthusiasm, motivation and initiative to succeed in this role. The jobholder must possess:

12. Minimum of A‑Level or HNC level education or relevant experience in an engineering/construction discipline.

13. Working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.

14. Excellent working knowledge of Primavera P6 and good knowledge of other planning software such as Asta, Microsoft Project etc.

15. High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills.

16. Excellent MS Office skills, well versed in preparing reports and information using packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

17. Strong awareness of the level of interaction required with the project team function to support successful project delivery.

18. Ability to reconcile cost information as it applies to the programmes of work.

19. Proficient in the interpretation of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools.

20. Proficient in the use of Earned Value Analysis.

21. Self‑motivated with good interpersonal skills, working in a team environment.

22. Good attention to detail with strong time‑management skills.

23. Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Desirable

24. Awareness of NEC3/4 contracts, in particular the programme deliverables/requirements.

25. Minimum of degree level in an engineering/construction discipline.

26. Knowledge of National Grid Technical Publications.

27. Awareness of DCMA Assessment Criteria, Acumen Fuse etc.

28. Relevant industry experience.

General

These positions will support one or more projects depending on project scope and value. The role will be hybrid but with an expectation of being on site most weeks or at an Omexom office for team meetings.

Travel to other sites and attendance at project progress meetings with customers and suppliers will be required throughout England and/or Wales as required. Some flexible working may be available with the agreement of the Line Manager.

The salary and benefits package for this role will be on a Personal Contract basis and will be commensurate with a position at this level and dependent on experience.
