Consultant Clinical Psychologist / SNPMP Clinical Lead. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff in clinical and non-clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Consultant Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to lead the Scottish National Pain Management Programme (SNPMP), a tertiary-level, interdisciplinary service delivering intensive pain management programmes for adults living with chronic pain across Scotland. As Clinical Lead, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership to a highly skilled interdisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of an evidence-based specialist psychological intervention. The post also offers potential to be a key figure in the future of pain management services across Scotland through established professional groups and workstreams.
About The Service
The SNPMP is funded by National Services Division (NSD) and hosted within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. It offers two modes of delivery:
* A 3-week residential programme.
* A 5-week virtual programme, designed to increase accessibility and flexibility.
The programme is underpinned by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and integrates contemporary neurophysiological models of pain. It aims to reduce psychological distress and physical disability and improve quality of life for individuals with complex chronic pain.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership and governance for the SNPMP.
* Lead and manage the interdisciplinary team within the service, with operational responsibility for the clinical psychologists in the team.
* Oversee the delivery of ACT-based (or other appropriate psychological framework) programmes.
* Maintain and strengthen partnerships with all 14 regional pain services in Scotland.
* Champion service development, education and research initiatives within the Scottish Pain Community.
What We’re Looking For
* HCPC-registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.
* Significant experience in pain management or long-term conditions.
* Dynamic and flexible leadership in interdisciplinary team working.
* Expertise in ACT or other third-wave psychological therapies.
* Strong commitment to service development, research and national collaboration.
