We are expanding our backpain service and have exciting opportunities for Advanced Practitioners/Trainee Advanced Practitioners, full or part time.
Job Summary
Appointment to band 7 or 8A is dependent on skills, experience, knowledge and qualifications (please view both Job Descriptions attached to the vacancy). If appointed as band 7,you will follow the AP training programme and when completed would move to band 8A.
The postholder will work autonomously within the four pillars of advanced practice -clinical, leadership, education and research to deliver the highest clinical standards in the practice of advanced assessment and treatment of back pain patients. The service is Outpatient based with clinics held in multiple locations within South Tees.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will act independently in the management of an often complex and chronic caseload of back and sciatic pain patients.
You will be responsible for advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning involving use of imaging, when necessary. This will involve knowledge of all possible multidisciplinary treatment pathways and appropriate referral/signposting.
You will liaise with primary care and external agencies to enable and ensure quality service provision for your client group.
Acting as a clinical leader, you will provide specialist advice to patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams, while maintaining up to date knowledge to influence practice and develop care pathways.

Qualifications Band 8a
Essential criteria
1. Registered healthcare practitioner
2. MSc in advanced Clinical Practice/Royal college credentialed/ HEE accredited AP
3. Completed portfolio of professional development which evidences an advanced level of clinical practice in line with HEE (2025) framework for AP
4. Portfolio demonstrating continued professional development and ongoing assessments
5. Formal research module completed at level 7 (masters level).
6. Will work towards and complete any appropriate credential routes which are available and applicable to the clinical area
Desirable criteria
7. ALS provider / instructor
Knowledge and skills Band 8a
Essential criteria
8. Professional knowledge acquired through a professional qualification which enables registration with a health care regulating body.
9. Supplemented by significant post-registration experience and specialist knowledge of the clinical area.
10. Management skills gained through theory and / or significant practice experience
11. Leadership skills
12. Contribution to policy development
13. Ability to autonomously problem solve, analyse, compare, and interpret complex information before making a decision
14. Has physical skills to ensure accuracy and dexterity required for clinical procedures
15. Has led research and implemented service change/improvement
Experience Band 8a
Essential criteria
16. Extensive clinical experience in speciality
17. Has led audit and research within the service
18. Can refer independently to other members of the MDT
19. Has lead on the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and/or local policy.
20. Leads and delivers educational teaching in relation to the speciality
21. Supports Junior doctors/nurses/AHPs to develop their own scope of practice
22. Can lead in Change management
Knowledge Band 7
Essential criteria
23. Professional knowledge acquired through a professional qualification which enables registration with a health care regulating body.
24. Evidence of management skills gained through theory and practice
25. Standard keyboard skills
26. Has physical skills to ensure accuracy and dexterity required for clinical procedures
27. Working knowledge of the trust AP strategy and policy
28. Working knowledge of the multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice
29. Ability to problem solve, analyse, compare and interpret complex information before making a decision
Qualifications Band 7
Essential criteria
30. Registered healthcare practitioner
31. Successfully completed modules/ short courses which are relevant to their role and are equivalent to masters level (L7) Supplemented by post graduate specialist training which may have been delivered in house.
32. Portfolio demonstrating continued professional development
33. ILS/ALS provider (dependant on clinical area)
34. Ability and drive to complete the MSc in advanced clinical practice successfully and attain the full AP MSc qualification
35. Will work towards and complete any appropriate credential routes which are available and applicable to the clinical area
Experience Band 7
Essential criteria
36. Extensive clinical experience in the speciality at a senior level
37. Service improvement experience
38. Experience leading a team
39. Undertakes and contributes to criteria led discharge where this is available
40. Refers to other members of the MDT
41. Leads by example and is a role model to junior staff
42. Facilitates timely discharge
