We are seeking dynamic and motivated clinicians to join our Department of Critical Care Medicine as Locum Consultants in Critical Care Medicine. These appointments form an essential part of our service development strategy, supporting the delivery of a comprehensive 7-day consultant-led service and preparing the unit for planned expansion in critical care capacity. Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine or be within six months of achieving their ICM CCT or CESR at the time of interview. We welcome individuals committed to high-quality, patient-centred care and to contributing to a collaborative, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team.
The successful appointees will join a purpose-designed four-consultant rota (1 in 4). This model contains no on-call duties and is intentionally structured to promote wellbeing and sustainability, with weekend working limited to 1 in 4 and a designated rest week built into the cycle during which no clinical or administrative duties are expected. During Week 3 of the rota, the consultant will work alongside the consultant of the week as the second-on, supporting daily service delivery. All rota commitments are prospectively covered, and postholders may need to arrange swaps within the 1 in 4 team when required.
