We are looking for an experienced and dynamic healthcare professional to join our team as the Lead Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator.
This is a key leadership role responsible for the coordination, delivery and governance of the NHS antenatal and newborn screening programmes. You will ensure that screening services meet national quality standards, support safe clinical pathways and promote excellent outcomes for mothers and babies.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across the maternity, neonatal, laboratory, child health and community services, acting as the expert point of contact for screening within the Trust and liaising with regional and national screening bodies.
Main duties of the job
Lead and coordinate delivery of the following NHS screening programmes:
· Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy Screening (IDPS)
· Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening
· Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme (FASP)
· Newborn Blood Spot Screening
Ensure delivery of screening services in accordance with national standards and policies set by NHS England and UKHSA.
Act as the lead contact for screening incidents, audits, external quality assurance visits and service development.
Analyse and report screening data, lead service improvements and present findings at governance meetings.
Support and educate staff involved in screening across maternity, neonatal and paediatric care settings.
Liaise with key stakeholders including screening laboratories, child health departments, regional QA teams and public health partners.
Line management of the Antenatal and Newborn Screening team.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
1. Registered Midwife with an active NMC pin
2. Evidence of continuing professional development and its application
3. Accredited Mentorship course
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
4. In depth knowledge of national screening programmes ANNB / NBS / FASP etc
5. Knowledge of SBLCBv2 and other relevant programmes
6. Knowledge of Midwifery issues in the wider context of the NHS
7. Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of Midwifery
8. Knowledge of safeguarding issues – adults and children
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
9. Capable of providing clinical leadership to the team
10. Clinical Skills relevant to post.
11. Ability to act as a mentor for Midwives, students and MCAs, skilled in teaching trained and untrained staff, carers and patients
12. IT literate on Microsoft Office and Excel
13. Excellent communication skills with all members of the team, patients and relatives
14. Good verbal and written English which can be evidenced at interview or IELTs level 7 (in all elements) or above
15. Good presentation skills
16. Demonstrates effective management in the clinical environment
17. Able to organise complex packages of patient care
18. Effectively prioritises and co-ordinates own work
19. Good previous attendance record
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Essential criteria
20. Able to travel to other sites and off site as necessary
21. Able to support the wider maternity outpatient departments as necessary
22. Ability to participate in the maternity on call rota
23. Flexible approach to working hours and practices
