Teaching Assistant – SEMH School

We are seeking a committed and professional Teaching Assistant to join our SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Southampton. This role offers a valuable opportunity to support pupils facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them to engage with their education and personal development in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct support to pupils with SEMH needs, facilitating their engagement with learning and positive behaviour management
Assist teaching staff in delivering tailored interventions and strategies to support pupils’ social, emotional, and mental wellbeing
Promote a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and personal growth
Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support for each pupil
Assist in monitoring pupil progress and contribute to behaviour management plans
Candidate Requirements:
Experience of working with children and young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable
Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
Patience, resilience, and a compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable pupils
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to maintaining a safe and positive learning environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
