Consultant Physician in GIM and Interest in Diabetes & Cardiovascular

Role Introduction
The appointee will join a team of six existing consultants who currently deliver a mixture of general medicine with inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrine services for the Trust. Due to the changing dynamics of chronic disease management the structure of the consultant team is under continual review in order to facilitate an efficient interface between primary and secondary care and within the partnerships across UHN.
The post specifically focuses on the diabetic and cardiovascular inpatient covering a ward of high acuity patients: joint vascular and diabetic foot patients, aging population of T1DM, young aged T2DM and patients admitted with acute decompensated heart failure.
Main duties of the job
* The successful candidate will be expected to take on the lead for the ward, enhancing the importance of in‑depth knowledge and experience in not only diabetes and general medicine but also in cardiology.
* Lead on education and supervision of the junior ward doctors targeting an optimal GMC survey review.
* Lead and improve the MDT workings within the inpatient setting.
* Lead through QIPs on inpatient KPI.
* Ensure that patient experience and inpatient outcomes high standards are achieved and maintained.

Person Specification
Management Experience
* Demonstrable Team Leadership skills and experience

Academic Achievements
* Publications in recognised Medicine / Medical Education Journals or Presentations at National Level
Qualifications and Training
* Completion of Specialty Training (CST or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving it in relevant specialty
* At least 2 years of clinical experience of inpatient and outpatient Diabetes & Endocrinology (at registrar or consultant level)
* At least 2 years of clinical experience of inpatient and outpatient Cardiology (at registrar or consultant level)
* At least 1 year of clinical experience as a consultant at a secondary care hospital
* MD, PhD or other higher degree
Teaching/Audit/Quality Improvement
* Experience of Audit and Quality Improvement
* Experience of Teaching Junior Staff
* Experience of Undergraduate Teaching
