Our retail outlets are a vital part of what we do, generating essential income that directly supports the hospice. Every item sold in our shops or donated to us helps fund the compassionate end-of-life care we provide. With 15 retail shops across North Derbyshire, a dedicated Furniture Store, Donation Centre, two bustling Clearance Shops, and two welcoming Coffee Shops, our retail presence continues to grow. We also operate two successful eBay platforms - one for clothing and one for general goods - alongside a fully online furniture shop. Our shops not only raise vital funds, but also create social value by offering volunteering opportunities, affordable goods, and a welcoming space for people in our local communities. It’s a dynamic, fast-paced operation that’s making a real difference every day!
Your will be joining a dedicated and values driven team of staff and volunteers wo deliver retail excellence every day!
Key responsibilities:
The role is responsible for driving income growth by meeting financial targets, maximising sales opportunities, and ensuring stock quality and visual displays support strong revenue generation. It also involves leading and developing a diverse team through inclusive recruitment, training, performance management, and regular communication, while fostering collaboration and continuous improvement. As a key ambassador in the community, the postholder will deliver an excellent experience for customers and donors, build positive relationships with stakeholders, and ensure full compliance with health and safety, security, and organisational policies, maintaining high standards across daily operations and cash and stock handling.

The successful candidate will bring excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate others and achieve strong results. They will be confident in building effective working relationships with staff and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, and will communicate clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing, to influence at all levels. They will also be self-motivated, able to work independently and prioritise their workload effectively, while remaining collaborative and responsive to direction. In addition, they will have a proven track record of achieving income targets in charity retail or a comparable environment.
About Ashgate:
Ashgate Hospice, based in North Derbyshire, offers free palliative and end of life care for adults with life-limiting or incurable illnesses, including cancer, neurological diseases, and advanced heart, kidney, and lung conditions. Last year, we cared for over 2,400 people. Our aim is to support our patients by keeping them informed, managing their symptoms, and improving their quality of life from diagnosis onwards.
We also provide vital support to the people who are important to them, offering practical assistance and emotional support, including bereavement services.
