Job Duties
The core responsibilities of this position involve managing large and complex datasets, utilizing GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro), developing and maintaining geodatabases, and creating custom GIS applications. The incumbent will be required to produce maps, plats, and exhibits of the marine environment for the entire agency.
This position will support all agency functions. The Habitat Division relies on spatial data for habitat mapping and restoration projects. Law Enforcement utilizes GIS for patrol planning and resource allocation. The Shellfish and Fisheries Divisions depend on geospatial data for managing aquaculture leases, assessing fish stocks, and monitoring fishing activity. Critically, this role will also support the specific needs of the Artificial Reef and oyster ground leasing program, ensuring these initiatives have the necessary data management and analytical support.
Minimum Qualifications
•Must be able to produce maps, plats, exhibits and other information relating to the marine environment.
•Must have 2 years work experience performing GIS duties. Training, certifications or degrees related to Geographical Information Systems is highly preferred and may substitute for one year of work experience.
•Must be proficient in ArcGIS Pro and able to work with large geospatial data sets.
•Must be able to work with a wide diversity of people to include the general public and all levels of the organization.
•A college degree in Environmental Science is preferred but not required.
•Working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
Additional Considerations
Thorough knowledge of both conventional and GPS surveying principles, processing, mapping and applicable mathematics, is required to perform this task. In addition, the individual must possess a solid background in computer-based mapping and GIS software. Must be able to interact with a wide variety of persons.
