JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a happy and positive Chef / School Cook with previous experience in a kitchen or catering environment, preparing nutritious meals on a large scale and good understanding of food allergens and healthy eating standards.
As the Chef / School Cook you will work under the direction of the Catering Manager. You will be preparing, cooking and serving food and drink to students and staff.
In addition, the Chef / School Cook will be required to prepare and dismantle eating areas and carry out cleaning duties whilst maintaining high quality standards of health, hygiene and safety.
DUTIES
1. Prepare the required number of food products, following specified menus/special dietary requirements
2. Ensure portion control, dietary requirements and nutritional standards are met
3. Prepare cooking ingredients
4. Cook food ensuring all meals are ready on time
5. Bake cakes, biscuits and puddings
6. Label and bag cakes as required
7. Prepare money for banking
8. Ensure kitchen equipment is used, cleaned and maintained correctly
9. Report equipment repairs and maintenance needs to the Chef/ Kitchen Manager
10. Ensure all food is served with the correct tools and is well presented
11. Oversee the day to day support and supervision of kitchen staff
12. Ensure that food safety and hygiene standards are maintained in the kitchen at all times
13. Operate tills and cashless card system, following strict guidelines
14. Within strict time limitation, assist with setting up the required number of tables, chairs bins and water jugs for service periods within the designated eating areas
15. Assist with washing up all eating utensils and equipment, sterilising where required, following set guidelines
16. Complete cleaning duties, following daily and weekly rotas, to ensure health and safety and hygiene standards are maintained
17. Put away daily/weekly/fortnightly deliveries ensuring correct stock rotation and quality control guidelines
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
18. Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum)
19. Allergen awareness training
20. Experience working in a kitchen or catering environment
21. Experience preparing nutritious meals on a large scale (preferably in a school or similar setting)
22. Understanding of healthy eating standards, especially for children
23. Knowledge of food safety regulations and procedures
24. Awareness of safeguarding and food allergens
25. Ability to plan menus in line with school nutrition guidelines
26. Strong organisational and time management skills
27. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
28. Good communication skills with both children and staff
29. Reliable and punctual
