Today, we operate over 70 services in communities across Scotland, providing mental health social care support, addictions and employment services, among others. Hours: 16 per week

Salary: Pro rata £25,430.00 - £25,947.00 (£13.04 - £13.30 per hour, salary points *13-19) *whilst this is a scale for progression, the starting salary is point 13

About the Role/Secondment

This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. SAMH is currently looking to recruit a Support Worker for the Engage Muirshiel and Renfrewshire services based in the Priesthill area of Glasgow and Renfrewshire. The Muirshiel service provides supported tenancies to 8 individuals with complex needs, experience of mental health and homelessness and works with them during a crucial period in their lives as they take steps towards living independently or moving on.

Renfrewshire services is a developing outreach support service, supporting up to 25 individuals with varying degrees of mental health conditions. Renfrewshire services provide support in the community and in individual's homes to help build their independent living skills and build lasting relationships within the community.

You will provide practical and emotional support and assist service users in daily living and social skills to enable them to sustain their tenancy and decrease hospital admission and reliance on emergency services. The service promotes independent living and supports service users to identify goals and aspirations to maximise their quality of life and recovery. You will help to encourage and support individuals to re-engage with other agencies such as health and addictions services, and education and employment agencies.

Everyone we support is different and we use individually tailored plans to help them identify where their strengths lie and support them in the areas where they may need it We are looking for initiative, compassion, energy, determination and the ability to motivate and inspire people who use our services to develop their skills and self-confidence and realise their aspirations. Support work can be challenging at times, but you go home each day knowing you made a difference.

What we are looking for

In this role your attitude and personality matter as much as your skills and experiences. Respect and dignity for the people who use our service is at the heart of everything we do. You don’t need any specific qualifications at first, but what you do need is the right attitude and values. We’re looking for people with great people skills who are honest, reliable and resilient in challenging situations.

Supporting the people who use our service means there are a variety of shift patterns including evenings, weekends and on-calls. You will be allocated to a service base but may be required to work flexibly across local services. These services operate 365 days a year.
