Leonardo UK is advancing in areas such as tactical sensing, data fusion, communications, machine learning, and defensive systems. This presents a unique opportunity to play a vital role in our business as a Principal Configuration Engineer at our Luton site with hybrid working arrangements.
As an experienced Principal Configuration Engineer, preferably within the Defence and Aerospace sector, you will oversee five key configuration activities across all lifecycle phases of a programme, working within IPTs.
Your role will involve guiding IPTs on C&DM processes and tools, whether at system requirements, system level, software, modeling, or hardware. You should be ready to challenge norms and tailor processes to fit the lifecycle phase and programme context.
As a Principal Configuration Engineer, you are expected to:
* Drive a proactive approach to C&DM within IPTs
* Support the Head of Configuration and Data Management by encouraging innovation and new ideas within IPTs and the Line of Business
Individually, you should:
* Resolve C&DM issues within an IPT by proposing and implementing solutions
* Provide a C&DM Basis of Estimate (BoE) for work packages
* Build and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers
* Demonstrate self-management and support the development of team members
* Promote knowledge and use of PLM and related engineering tools
Key Responsibility Areas
Additionally, you should have experience in:
* Configuration Management Planning, including creating and reviewing CM Plans
* Configuration Identification
* Change Control, including operating Change Control Boards and providing configuration status inputs
* Configuration Status Accounting, emphasizing configuration baselines
* Verification and Audit, leading FCA/PCA activities
* Collaborating with engineering teams to ensure dataset maintenance and configuration control
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
You must have:
* A good understanding of Configuration Management per DEF STAN 05-57
* Practical knowledge of the five key elements of Configuration Management: Planning, Identification, Change Management, Status Accounting, and Audit/Verification
* Experience in Software Configuration Management at product release points (desired)
* Input to Design Reviews and Certification related to Configuration Baseline Management (essential)
* Experience in developing safety-critical products
* Knowledge of Product Management Tools such as Teamcenter (version 13) and SAP (desired)
* Strong administrative skills with attention to detail and logical thinking
