Job overview
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is an internationally renowned centre for the management of children with congenital and acquired heart disease. An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly team in Clinical Physiology.
An opportunity has arisen to join the echo team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This position requires someone with experience in echocardiography and an interest in transferring their skills to the paediatric setting. Previous experience in paediatrics is not necessary but an enthusiasm to develop existing echocardiography knowledge will stand the post holder in good stead for progressing in this field.
We are looking for a person who, with support, will perform echocardiography in children with a large spectrum of congenital, inherited and acquired heart conditions.
Main duties of the job
• To complete in-house training with support and teaching from senior clinical scientist/physiologists.
• To carry out complex transthoracic paediatric echocardiograms guided by departmental protocols.
• To produce and authorise an accurate, factual and clinical report for each study, in order to guide the clinician on the management of the patient, therefore recognising when a patient needs to be seen urgently by a Cardiologist
• To have in-depth specialist knowledge to advise when transthoracic echocardiography is insufficient to answer the clinical question, and proactively suggest alternative/additional investigations
• To adapt cardiac ultrasound techniques as necessary to suit the need of the child whilst ensuring optimum imaging is maintained at all times
• To work flexibly and undertake any other duties as delegated by the Senior Chief Clinical Physiologist
• To plan and prioritise own patient workload
• To ensure a good oversight of the departmental need and suggest alternative arrangements to service provision if required
• To be working towards achieving the European Accreditation in Echocardiography in Congenital Heart Disease Accreditation (under the umbrella of European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging).
