What you'll do:
As an Assistant Management Accountant, you will become an integral member of a dynamic finance team, contributing significantly to the production of key financial documents that underpin strategic decisions. Your day-to-day activities will involve preparing management accounts, conducting thorough reconciliations, posting journals, reviewing invoices for accuracy, assisting with VAT returns, and supporting both routine reporting needs and special projects. You will also play an important role in annual budgeting cycles, compliance monitoring, year-end processes, and ongoing process improvements.
* Assist in the production of monthly management accounts including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and provide insightful variance analysis with commentary against budgets or reforecasts.
* Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data across all ledgers.
* Post journals such as accruals and prepayments accurately and review purchase invoice postings to confirm correct nominal coding is applied throughout the process.
* Support the preparation of quarterly VAT returns by gathering relevant data and ensuring compliance with current regulations.
* Contribute to finance-related projects and process improvements by identifying areas for greater efficiency within existing workflows.
* Generate regular reports and conduct data analysis as required by various stakeholders across the business to inform decision-making.
* Participate actively in the annual budgeting and planning process by providing accurate financial information and supporting documentation.
* Ensure adherence to all financial regulations by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.
* Collaborate closely with senior finance colleagues during year-end statutory accounts preparation, audit processes, and tax queries to ensure smooth completion of external requirements.
* Review accounting processes regularly with a view to enhancing the overall efficiency of the finance function while supporting ad-hoc analysis requests from management.
What you bring:
To excel as an Assistant Management Accountant in this thriving organisation, you will bring proven experience in core accounting functions along with a genuine enthusiasm for learning new skills. Your background should include hands-on involvement with management accounts preparation, reconciliations, journal postings, invoice processing, VAT returns support, and report generation.
* Currently studying towards a recognised accountancy qualification such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
* Advanced Excel skills including proficiency with pivot tables, look-ups, complex formulae, and data manipulation techniques
* Excellent organisational skills allowing you to manage multiple tasks efficiently
* Resilience under pressure with the ability to prioritise duties effectively when faced with conflicting demands in a busy environment.
* Demonstrated initiative combined with a proactive approach ensures you can identify issues early and contribute positively even during periods of change or challenge.
* Strong interpersonal skills enabling you to create effective working relationships quickly across different teams within the organisation.
* Previous experience handling stock transactions or multi-currency/foreign exchange operations would be advantageous but not essential for success in this role.
