Are you an experienced European Road Freight Forwarder looking for your next challenge?
We are seeking a motivated and commercially minded Road Freight Forwarder to join a growing operations team in Folkestone. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of European road freight operations and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
The Role
As a European Road Freight Forwarder, you will plan and manage road freight movements across Europe. You will coordinate with owner drivers and subcontractors to ensure efficient collections, deliveries, and maximum profitability while providing exceptional service to customers.
This is a hands-on operational role that combines transport planning, client liaison, and commercial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and manage European collections and deliveries, ensuring on-time and cost-effective transport.
Work closely with owner drivers and subcontractors to optimise vehicle utilisation and reduce empty mileage.
Negotiate rates with hauliers and customers to maximise profit margins.
Identify and quote for new business opportunities in partnership with the commercial team.
Handle ad hoc freight forwarding requests alongside contracted routes.
Manage and resolve invoice and admin queries to maintain data accuracy.
Maintain customer databases, pricing matrices, and KPI reports.
Record and monitor non-compliance and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide out-of-hours support on a rota basis, ensuring seamless customer service.
You will bring:
Proven experience in European road freight forwarding or transport operations (2 years minimum)
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Excellent geographical knowledge of Europe
Ability to plan routes, liaise with subcontractors, and manage multiple loads simultaneously
Proficiency in Excel and/or Transport Management Systems (TMS)
A proactive, solutions-driven approach with strong customer focus
