Role with a Local Authority Job Summary: • The Sustainable Housing Support Worker provides intensive, person-centred support to vulnerable individuals with complex needs, including rough sleepers and those experiencing homelessness. • The role focuses on helping service users access, sustain, and succeed in accommodation through tailored support plans, effective case management, and multi-agency collaboration, in line with housing legislation and safeguarding requirements. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Manage a caseload of vulnerable clients, including rough sleepers and individuals with complex needs. • Assess needs and develop, implement, and review Sustainable Housing Support Plans, risk assessments, and needs assessments. • Support service users to access and sustain accommodation (Housing First, dispersed flats, shared housing, PRS). • Build and maintain effective relationships to encourage engagement and positive behavioural change. • Provide practical support, including accessing benefits, reducing debt, and improving independent living skills. • Ensure all casework complies with relevant housing legislation, safeguarding policies, and procedures. • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and input data into IT systems. • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners (e.g. social care, NHS, probation, housing providers). • Respond to day-to-day enquiries, safeguarding concerns, and emergency situations. • Promote service user involvement, participation, and inclusion through group work and activities. • Contribute to team working, service development, and continuous improvement. • Support peer programmes and assist with staff induction/training where required. Skills/Experience: • Proven experience supporting vulnerable individuals, particularly those experiencing homelessness. • Experience working with clients with complex needs (e.g. substance misuse, offending history, mental health). • Strong ability to assess needs and develop support plans, risk assessments, and casework interventions. • Good knowledge of homelessness legislation, welfare benefits, and housing policy. • Understanding of safeguarding, health & safety, equality, and social care frameworks. • Ability to manage a caseload and meet performance targets. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence behaviour. • Experience of multi-agency working and partnership collaboration. • Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate case records. • Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to management. Additional Information: • Bi-Weekly Payments. • Based at Edmonton Green Library, covering Enfield borough. • 36 hours per week (typically 09:00 – 17:30, flexibility may be required). • Role involves working with high-risk and vulnerable individuals in community and accommodation settings. • No direct line management, but supports team development and peer learning.
