ABOUT THE ROLE: As a Senior Animal Welfare Officer, you would be leading a team of Animal Welfare Officers (AWOs) in the development, implementation, and monitoring of animal welfare policies, as well as ensuring that all customer and legislative standards are achieved. You can expect the role to involve: · Management of and working with the AWO’s to assist the site in developing working practices and procedures and ensuring compliance with the rules laid down in COUNCIL REGULATION (EC) No 1099/2009 on the protection of animals at the time of killing and UK Statutory Instrument The Welfare of Animals at the Time of Killing 2013, as amended. · The Senior AWO will be under direct authority of the site and shall report directly to the Technical Team / Site GM and it is to them that any matters relating to the welfare of animals is communicated. · To ensure that the slaughterhouse personnel carry out any remedial actions necessary to ensure compliance with the rules laid down in the Regulations. · The responsibilities of the animal welfare officer shall be set out in the standard operating procedures of the slaughterhouse and effectively brought to the attention of the personnel concerned. · The Senior AWO will have an overseeing responsibility to ensure that the site meets its WATOK responsibilities and will be fully engaged with the Company’s other slaughter sites to drive standards forward. · Fully support and train AWO’s to allow them to deliver good animal welfare. · The Senior AWO shall hold a certificate of competence for all operations taking place in the slaughterhouse for which they are responsible. · The Senior AWO will keep a record of actions taken to improve animal welfare in the slaughterhouse. This record shall be kept for at least one year and shall be made available to the competent authority upon request. · Responsible for the assessment of personnel carrying out operations listed in section 4 to deliver competency assessments for certification. · Daily, Weekly, Monthly & Quarterly reporting on Welfare Issues. · Involvement in sites audits both Internal & External – E.G.
