Intertek is seeking a Sampler 1 to join our team based at the Esso Refinery, Fawley. This is a hands-on and varied role, working at one of the UK's key oil terminals. As a Sampler 1, you will carry out petroleum and chemical sampling from all stages of processing, using approved techniques. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, physical work and being part of a safety-critical environment, with full training and mentoring provided.
About the Opportunity
This role is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a refinery environment and develop skills in sampling and quality assurance. You will work closely with terminal panel operators, Intertek colleagues, and clients, ensuring compliance with recognised procedures, maintaining high safety standards, and supporting operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out sampling duties using approved techniques as directed by terminal panel operators.
* Transport samples within the refinery in compliance with road traffic and local site regulations.
* Perform water draw-off on jet tanks in line with national procedures.
* Adhere to Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental policies.
* Perform routine equipment verification and function checks.
* Complete job time sheets for refinery sign-off.
* Coordinate and communicate with Intertek staff and clients to ensure smooth operations.
About You
You will be an effective communicator with a proactive attitude and willingness to work flexibly, including unsociable hours when required. This role involves physical work, including climbing vertical ladders and negotiating uneven ground, so you must be comfortable with the physical demands of the position. You should be able to work independently with limited supervision and hold a valid driving licence. Prior experience in sampling or working within a refinery environment would be advantageous.
