Position Overview
We are seeking a Research Assistant to support a project investigating how sediment impacts flow measurements and weir operation, with a focus on identifying and quantifying uncertainties to inform British Standards Institute (BSI) recommendations. The role involves laboratory experiments, field visits, interviews, desk‑based studies, report writing, and presentation preparation for academic and industry audiences.
Responsibilities
* Conduct laboratory experiments and perform field visits related to sediment and flow measurements.
* Interview stakeholders and collect desk‑based data.
* Analyse and interpret collected data, producing clear and accurate findings.
* Prepare comprehensive reports documenting research results.
* Support the creation and delivery of presentations for internal and external audiences.
Qualifications
* Master’s or PhD degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics, or Water Resources.
* Experience conducting laboratory and/or field‑based research.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with meticulous attention to data quality and detail.
Contract Details
9‑month fixed‑term part‑time position, available from 15 January 2026.
