Job Description
£50,000–£60,000 | National Account Manager | Slough | Hybrid: typically 2 days in office (sometimes 1)
Are you currently managing national retail accounts within FMCG?
Do you take real ownership of P&L, forecasting and commercial decisions?
Are you comfortable operating in a fast-moving, lean team with high accountability?
Who this role suits
This role suits a commercially minded National Account Manager who enjoys complexity, pace and responsibility. You’ll thrive if you like being close to the detail, owning outcomes end-to-end, and working in an environment where priorities evolve and performance is visible.
You’ll be comfortable in a relatively young, agile team, confident presenting numbers, and motivated by the challenge of growing demanding retail accounts rather than managing by hierarchy.
The opportunity
This is a Band C National Account Manager role within a discounters and value retail environment. The role has been upgraded due to increased complexity and commercial opportunity, particularly across established national customers.
You’ll inherit long-standing accounts with meaningful scale and will be expected to stabilise, optimise and grow performance rather than “start from scratch”. The business operates lean, so this is a hands-on role with genuine exposure, autonomy and internal visibility.
What you’ll actually be doing
You will take full ownership of a portfolio of national retail accounts, including discounter and value-led customers. Day to day, this includes:
* Owning the commercial performance of your accounts, including P&L, forecasting and margin delivery
* Building, tracking and updating customer plans and joint value initiatives
* Managing nominations, pricing, promotional mechanics and supply forecasts
* Developing and modelling commercial proposals and growth opportunities
* Leading customer meetings, performance reviews and negotiations
* Working closely with internal stakeholders in a lean, matrix setup
* Presenting forecasts and performance internally with clear rationale and action plans
Some customers are highly relationship-led with regular face-to-face reviews, while others operate in a low-touch, email-led way. You’ll need to adapt your style accordingly.
What you must bring
* Experience managing national or major retail accounts within FMCG or consumer goods
* Proven ownership of P&L, forecasting and commercial decision-making
* Strong numerical and analytical capability, including financial modelling
* Confidence operating independently in a lean team environment
* Experience working with demanding buyers and holding performance conversations
* Ability to work from Slough on a hybrid basis (typically 2 days per week)
Desirable experience
* Exposure to discounters, value retail or mass-market customers
* Experience with complex product ranges, multiple formats or high SKU counts
* Prior experience working with challenging, process-driven customers
* Blue-chip FMCG background
What’s on offer
* Competitive base salary with performance-linked bonus
* Hybrid working with flexibility in practice
* High exposure to senior leadership and decision-making
* Opportunity to develop breadth quickly in a changing organisation
* Supportive but high-expectation team environment
If you want a role where performance is visible, ownership is real, and development comes from doing rather than observing, this will suit you.
No sponsorship or relocation offered.
