Associate Director of Pharmacy - Medicines Safety

Job Overview
An exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to lead Medicines Safety services at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS FT. Reporting directly to the Chief Pharmacist, you will be one of four associate directors of pharmacy.
The role is primarily based at Royal Preston Hospital, with opportunities to work at Chorley Hospital or off-site.
We seek a forward-thinking, dynamic pharmacist with senior management and service delivery experience, capable of leading, developing, and motivating teams to uphold high standards and represent pharmacy externally and internally.
Main Duties
1. Strategically lead the Medicines Management team.
2. Develop and implement the trust Medicines Optimisation Strategy, aligning with ICS strategies.
3. Expertise in Medicines Safety, Education, Governance, Risk, and Compliance.
4. Support the Director of Pharmacy and senior leadership in service planning and delivery.
5. Oversee six specialist functions: Medicines Education, Safety, Governance, EPMA & IT, Research & Trials, Administration.
6. Accountable for operational leadership, financial control, and strategic growth of these functions.
7. Manage all aspects of Medicines Education across the organization.

Detailed Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Act as Trust MSO.
2. Lead the Medicines Safety team.
3. Manage national safety alerts, shortages, reviews, and responses.
4. Conduct investigations, develop PSIIs, and thematic reviews.
5. Participate in coroners' inquests and investigations.
6. Organize the Medicines Governance Committee, ensuring high-quality submissions.
7. Oversee Medicines Education for various staff groups.
8. Report on Education quality and seek funding for CPD.
9. Collaborate with HEE and ICS Workforce groups.
10. Lead EPMA & IT teams.
11. Ensure regulatory compliance in community services.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MPharm or equivalent
* GPhC registration
Knowledge & Experience
* Minimum 8 years post-registration hospital experience, including 2 in a senior role.
* Expertise in Safety, Education, Governance, Formulary, Regulation, and Compliance.
* Understanding of NHS commissioning and formulary systems.
* Knowledge of Medicines legislation, MSO role, and CQC standards.
* Experience in strategic planning and service development.
* Strong management and supervision skills.
* Ability to analyze complex data and present clearly.
* Proven track record in service improvement.
* Experience in workforce development, acute trust, or tertiary centers.
* Familiarity with NHS policies and agendas.
* Experience in training diverse staff groups.
