Our client operates across oil, natural gas, renewables, and electricity. One of its flagship projects is in the gas and condensate field, which is being developed to boost domestic gas supply and support exports through regional pipelines. The project, operated through a joint venture with national and international partners, reflects the client’s strategy of combining large-scale energy production with long-term regional cooperation and sustainability goals.
About the Role
This service will be based in the UK, Bristol with periodic travel to Singapore & Batam to cover the SPS Contract execution. Under the responsibility of the SPS Technical Lead, the service holder will act as a specialist and support the SPS Technical Lead on all technical matters related to welding and metallurgy.
Responsibilities
* Support the SPS Package Lead during execution phase to ensure technical consistency and quality of the delivered product
* Responsible for all welding and material issues within the SPS scope of supply
* Ensure alignment with project requirements, standards, and HSE rules
* Work closely with Company Site Representatives and Third-Party Inspectors to ensure welding and material aspects are in line with design and fabrication
* Lead by example in HSE performance and promote a safety culture across project activities
* Ensure team competency in HSE standards, verifying all personnel are trained and capable of applying required safety practices
* Implement and enforce HSE requirements within your scope of responsibility, ensuring compliance with project-specific and corporate safety policies
* Integrate safety engineering requirements into all technical documentation, including welding procedures, material specifications, and inspection plans
* Conduct regular safety reviews and audits, address findings promptly, and ensure corrective actions are implemented
* Participate in risk assessments and hazard identification workshops, contributing technical expertise to minimize risks related to welding and material activities
* Monitor contractor and subcontractor adherence to HSE standards, intervening when necessary to prevent unsafe practices
* Promote continuous improvement in safety performance, encouraging feedback and lessons learned to enhance future operations
Qualifications
* Extensive experience in welding and materials engineering with subsea fabrication and offshore projects
* Proven ability in developing, reviewing, and approving welding procedures and qualifications
* Deep technical knowledge of welding processes and weld metallurgy, including heat-affected zones, cracking mechanisms, and post-weld heat treatment
* Hands-on experience with corrosion-resistant alloys, clad materials, dissimilar metal welds, and automated or orbital welding techniques used in subsea applications
* Experience selecting and qualifying materials for harsh subsea environments
* Understanding of corrosion mechanisms and mitigation strategies such as coatings and cathodic protection
* Ability to interpret international codes and standards and project/company specifications
* Experience reviewing non-destructive testing results, coordinating with third-party inspectors, and managing inspection plans
* Experience supporting fabrication yards through manufacturing, factory acceptance, and site integration testing
* Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to contribute to technical clarifications and bid evaluations
* Strong commitment to HSE and quality standards; proficient with digital document systems
* Knowledge of fabrication yards and subsea production systems (trees, manifolds, wellheads, connection systems)
