Home Birth Midwife

A flexible role for midwives looking to provide compassionate, woman‑centred care to women in the community, from supporting pregnancies and home births to caring for new mums and babies post‑birth. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, including midwife‑led units, to promote physiological birth and increase homebirth rates.
Main duties of the job
As a skilled midwife, you will deliver care throughout all stages of pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period in both hospital and community settings, act as an advocate for women and their babies, and ensure evidence‑based, guideline‑led care. You will support the continuity of carer model, manage emergencies such as shoulder dystocia and postpartum haemorrhage, and provide mentorship to junior staff.
* Deliver care throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period, in both hospital and community settings.
* Act as an advocate for women and their babies, ensuring care is evidence‑based and follows current guidelines.
* Support the increase in homebirth rates and midwife‑led unit births, aligned with the continuity of carer model.
* Manage emergencies such as shoulder dystocia, postpartum haemorrhage, and neonatal resuscitation with confidence, in both hospital and home environments.
* Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, including student midwives and healthcare assistants, helping to foster a positive learning environment.
* Perform tasks such as IV drug administration, perineal suturing, and the management of epidurals.
* Ensure clear, accurate, and timely documentation of all care provided, including assessments and care plans.

Our Continuity of Carer model gives women consistent, supportive care. In your first year you may experience different parts of the service through rotation, but your main focus will be on Homebirth care.

Qualifications and Training
* Registered Midwife with a valid NMC pin
* Registered Nurse
Knowledge & Experience
* Inpatient and Outpatient experience in all areas
* Community and CoC experience
* Current mandatory CPD
* Attended CTG masterclass
* NIPE training
Skills
* Demonstrates a caring and sensitive approach to woman‑centred care
* Motivated and demonstrates enthusiasm for homebirth
* Good communication and computer skills
* Valid driving licence
