2024 is continuing to provide sustainable growth within OCU Group. Due to this continued growth, we now have an opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Deeside.
The purpose of the role will be to assist the Operations & Line Manager with the daily running of all commercial aspects of the business.
You will play a key role in managing the costs and finances of construction projects from inception to completion. You will be responsible for estimating project costs, preparing tender documents, and managing contractual relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams to achieve cost-effective and successful project outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
* Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts for construction projects based on drawings, specifications, and other project documentation.
* Analyse project requirements, materials, labour, and overhead costs to determine project feasibility and establish cost-effective solutions.
Tendering and Procurement:
* Prepare tender documents, bills of quantities (BOQ), and contract specifications for procurement of construction works, services, and materials.
* Evaluate contractor bids and proposals, negotiate contract terms and conditions, and recommend selection of preferred suppliers or subcontractors.
Contract Administration:
* Administer contracts, including issuing variations, valuing works completed, and assessing contractor claims for payment in accordance with contractual obligations and industry standards.
* Monitor project progress, costs, and variations, and prepare regular reports on financial status, cash flow, and cost projections for management and stakeholders.
Risk Management:
* Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks related to cost, schedule, and quality, and develop strategies to minimise potential impacts on project outcomes.
* Review contract terms, insurance requirements, and indemnities to ensure adequate risk transfer and compliance with regulatory standards.
Cost Control and Value Engineering:
* Monitor project costs and expenditures against budgets, identify cost variances and deviations, and implement corrective actions to control costs and maintain project profitability.
* Collaborate with project teams to identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving measures without compromising project quality or performance.
Dispute Resolution:
* Provide advice and assistance in resolving disputes, claims, and contractual issues arising during construction projects, including negotiation, mediation, or arbitration as necessary.
* Document and maintain accurate records of contractual correspondence, claims, and resolutions for future reference and audit purposes.
Skills and Experience:
* Holder of a Full UK Drivers Licence.
* Educated to Degree level, or equivalent experience.
* Experience within a similar role.
* Must be an excellent organiser with proven time management skills.
* Must be flexible in hours of work and travel.
* Have excellent communication – both oral written, numeric and computer skills (Microsoft outlook, excel & word)
* Understanding & Proficiency to complete the monthly CVR process.
* Understanding of the accrual process.
* Previous CEMAR administration experience an advantage.
* Previous working knowledge of SAGE an advantage.
* Must be proficient with NEC 3/NEC 4 contracts, all options, and be able to work independently and/or as part of a team.
