About the role
The post holder will be an experienced Operating Department Practitioner with extensive anaesthetic experience across a variety of specialities. They must possess excellent leadership and clinical skills to act effectively as a team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support to meet agreed standards, objectives and targets. They will act within their professional boundaries to provide patient care and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to meet patient needs, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
* Provision of specialised technical and practical skills to ensure optimum patient management, including complex patient monitoring and equipment management.
* Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high physical effort according to patient dependency and clinical need.
* Provide training to identified staff groups within defined areas.
* Support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations, e.g., breaking bad news or following an unexpected event.
* Maintain high quality service through effective communication and timely management of unexpected events.
* Act as a resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures, ensuring clinical governance is embedded.
* Monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policies.
* Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.
* Identify and assess complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implement resolutions, and monitor/audit outcomes.
Requirements
* Experience as an Operating Department Practitioner with extensive anaesthetic experience.
* Demonstrated leadership in a clinical setting.
* Strong communication skills enabling maintenance of high quality service and resolution of unexpected events.
* Knowledgeable team leader supporting staff, service and policy development within a defined area or specialty.
* Ability to advise staff on national, local and Trust policy and guidelines to embed clinical governance.
