Neuro Diagnostic Radiology - Locum Consultant
We are seeking to appoint
Consultant Neuroradiologists
to support the growing local and regional demand for advanced neuroimaging services in the
East Midlands
.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team of
14 diagnostic neuroradiologists and four interventional radiologists
, contributing to all aspects of neuroimaging, including elective and emergency cases, with opportunities for teaching, audit, and research.
The role offers flexibility, with opportunities to report across multiple sites, contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, and take part in the dedicated neuroradiology on-call rota. Remote reporting (from a home workstation) is available, and there are plans for a
new Community Diagnostic Centre to open in 2025
.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical
* Provide a full range of neuroimaging services for adult and paediatric patients, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, and plain film examinations.
* Participate in dedicated neuroradiology on-call rota (1:12 weekdays, 1:16 weekends, with scheduled weekend sessions).
* Undertake reporting, multidisciplinary meetings, and clinical support for peripheral hospitals within the regional network.
* Contribute to enhancing patient flow in the ED, improving cancer pathways, and expediting the turnaround of imaging reports.
Education & Training
* Actively participate in the training of specialist registrars on the East Midlands Radiology Training Scheme.
* Provide lectures, supervision, and tuition for junior doctors and radiology trainees.
* Support research opportunities for trainees and contribute to departmental educational activities.
Research, Audit & Governance
* Engage in audit, discrepancy meetings, and governance activities.
* Contribute to service development and adoption of evidence-based practice.
* Support innovation in imaging services, including digital platforms and AI integration.
Service Development & Administration
* Work collaboratively with clinical colleagues to enhance performance and improve outcomes.
* Maintain professional standards, mandatory training, and CPD.
* Provide administrative and managerial support within the radiology department.
Person Specification
Essential
* Complete GMC registration and licence to practise
* FRCR (or equivalent)
* Eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (CCT within 6 months or equivalent)
* Broad training and experience in neuroradiology
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Proven ability to supervise, teach, and support junior medical staff
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit and service improvement
Desirable
* Subspecialty training in paediatric neuroradiology or head & neck imaging
* MRCP, MRCS, or additional professional qualification
* Experience in change management, governance, or research with publications in neuroradiology
* Formal training in communication skills, human factors, or patient safety
* Higher degree or teaching qualification
