We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, and hardworking Children's Nurse to join our ED team. We welcome both newly qualified and experienced children’s nurses. The ideal candidate must be able to work well under pressure, have a willingness to learn, and develop their skills. If this describes you, we would be delighted to hear from you.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide the highest standard of evidence-based, patient-centered care. Most importantly, you will share our PRIDE values and our desire to continually improve. We believe that happy, motivated staff are essential to delivering patient satisfaction, so we are committed to making our hospitals great places to work. Our values are Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive, and Empowerment—the PRIDE at the heart of everything we do.
All new staff appointed to posts are subject to a six-month probationary period, allowing new starters to become familiar with the culture and working environment of the Trust.
Our busy Children's Emergency Departments cover two sites: Queens Hospital in Romford and King George's Hospital in Goodmayes. We provide a comprehensive range of general Paediatric and Surgical Services to our local communities. These are among the busiest Children's EDs in the country, and we are continually expanding our team to provide the best possible service. You will have opportunities to learn and develop your knowledge while ensuring your skills remain fully up to date, supported by our Practice Development Nurse, Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses, Matrons, and the wider MDT team. Your role will focus on delivering high standards of patient-centered care, emphasizing the essentials of care and clinical safety.
* Following the initial assessment and under supervision, manage a group of patients.
* Support the senior emergency nurses and ED team by delivering high standards of care within your scope of practice.
* Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control within the service.
* Develop yourself and support others, including students.
We are an organization committed to continuous improvement, driven by a determination to deliver care we are proud of and that makes our patients happy. We are no longer in special measures, having opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital. Our Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.
We operate from two main sites—KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. Our two busy emergency departments served over 330,000 visitors last year. We are campaigning for £35m to transform the A&E at Queen’s and eliminate corridor care.
Our patients benefit from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford, an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch, and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch. These CDCs operate 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing an additional 88,000 scans annually.
Our staff, over 8,000 from 146 countries, come from diverse backgrounds across the London boroughs we serve. Many work flexibly, and over 400 are enrolled in Ofsted-accredited apprenticeship programs. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We are excited to introduce an electronic patient record system that will benefit both staff and patients.
