Job Title: Learning Support Mentor
Salary: £23,519 per annum (pro‑rated)
Duration: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week – term time only
Location: Cambridge (potential travelling to other locations within and outskirts of city)
Role Purpose
To support students with learning difficulties and disabilities to become empowered so that they can fully access the curriculum and successfully achieve their programme of study through greater independence.
Note: An enhanced DBS will be completed prior to starting this role.
Key Duties
 * Work in collaboration with subject lecturing staff and assessors, under the direction of the Learning Support Manager.
 * Support students to access curriculums both within and outside of a classroom environment: reading out of materials, note taking, word processing, using enabling technologies, definition of language, and other metacognitive skills.
 * Empower young people to achieve their personalised learning outcomes, including Education, Health and Care Plan outcomes and targets.
 * Promote independence and empower students to make progress towards their achievement.
 * Maintain records in accordance with the support guidelines relating to student attendance, target‑setting and progression; ensure daily Pro‑monitor records reflect the support provided.
 * Support students with the delivery of therapy interventions (e.g., physiotherapy and speech & language therapy) following guidance and programmes set out by the appropriate professional.
 * Attend statutory annual review meetings with parents and/or external key workers.
 * Attend and contribute effectively to team meetings and focus on learning support improvements.
Key Skills/Experience Required
 * Level 2 functional skills in English and Maths.
 * Level 2 Learning Support qualification or working towards one.
 * Qualification in Moving and Handling / Assisting People to Move.
 * Recent and demonstrable experience working with young people and adults from a variety of age ranges within an FE setting or other institution (education, healthcare, social services).
 * High level of sensitivity, empathy, motivation, teamwork, independent initiative, and excellent communication skills.
