Get Information About Schools 2 Inclusion Quality Mark 2 Your Role as Learning Support Assistant As a Learning Support Assistant, you will: Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils, including those in the Resourced Provision with additional needs. Assist class teachers in planning and delivering inclusive lessons tailored to individual learning needs. Support pupils with communication, mobility, personal care or physical needs when required, ensuring dignity and respect. Help maintain a safe, supportive, calm learning environment that promotes engagement, confidence and independence. Contribute to classroom behaviour management, encouraging positive behaviour, social interactions and emotional wellbeing. Support during transitions, break/lunch times or other structured/unstructured parts of the school day. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCOs, therapists and other staff to implement support strategies and track progress. Provide feedback on pupil progress, behaviour or concerns - contributing to individual education plans and review meetings when needed. Transferable Skills & Backgrounds That Work Well You may be ideal for this role if you have experience or strengths in: Working with children - e.g. in nurseries, after‑school clubs, youth organisations, childcare or play‑work. Supporting individuals with additional needs - e.g. in disability support services, care homes, physiotherapy/occupational‑therapy assistance, speech & language support, or therapy‑based settings. Strong communication and interpersonal skills - able to build rapport with children, staff and families, understand and adapt to individual needs, and collaborate well in a team. Patience, empathy, compassion and a calm, positive demeanour - essential when working with children who may need extra support. Flexibility and adaptability - able to respond to changing needs, work across different groups, support a variety of needs and work in dynamic classroom environments. Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and child welfare principles - vital for working in a school setting. Experience & Qualifications (or Equivalent) Required We are looking for candidates who: Have experience working with children, ideally in education, childcare, youth work, care or support services. Have some experience supporting children with additional needs or disabilities - though full SEND specialist training is not required, a willingness to learn and adapt is essential. Demonstrate strong communication skills, patience, empathy and resilience. Are committed to inclusion, equality, and supporting children to achieve their potential. Have a good standard of English and numeracy. A relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning, CACHE, NVQ) is a plus but not mandatory if you bring strong practical experience and commitment. Why Work via SENDHelp?
