Role Summary · Provides leadership to the country Medical Affairs Teams aligned with the Category medical strategies, business goals and customer needs · Represents the company to external bodies for medical issues that apply across all therapeutic areas/categories · Represents Pfizer through relationships with medical associations, societies, academic medical centres and industry associations · Represents Pfizer in high-level interactions with regulatory authorities as required · Takes accountability together with the respective Category medical leads and medical function leads for the compliance of medical operations, including medical communication and promotional material with applicable guidelines · In partnership with the responsible functions supports and facilitates in-country adherence of MQG, pharmacovigilance, product quality, regulatory, medical information and clinical activities and processes to relevant regulations and Pfizer SOPs · Has oversight of the medical functions within all categories in relation to compliance and talent development. Role Responsibilities Development, Implementation and Communication of UK Medical Affairs Strategies and the in-country Medical Affairs Function · Provides strategic medical leadership across the Country through the execution of a bold, highly scientific and innovative medical strategy. Provides insight, expertise and medical support to the business · Drives a customer and patient centric medical organization that fosters strong partnerships with HCPs, regulators, and external stakeholders. Represents the immediate point of reference to the Country President and external medical face of Pfizer to external stakeholders, such as KOL’s, Industry Bodies, Regulatory Authorities, Government & Payers (in partnership with appropriate functional lines) and during Business Development discussions. · Plans and executes the respective KOL strategy for UK on highly ethical and medical professional grounds and brings their input into the medical strategies and plans · Ensures processes and procedures within medical are continuously reviewed and updated to meet current and future business needs · Utilizes the latest technologies, tools and internal partners (GMAT, International Medical, Medical Platforms) to generate, analyze, exchange and act on insights that support the effective development and utilization of Pfizer products to improve patient outcomes, inform pipeline, launch and lifecycle planning excellence. · Devises country medical plans on scientifically sound principles that will bring benefits to the patients, working in close collaboration with above country functions, and in accordance with the overall brand and portfolio strategy · Allocates financial and FTE resources to each brand as per the operating plan provisions · Ensures implementation of medical strategies according to the medical plans, across Pfizer UK portfolio of medicines, with emphasis on the data generating and data communication activities · Partners with the Country President to ensure alignment with internal and external country strategies and represents all medical and related functions at Country Leadership Team · Provides medical support and guidance to Country President to ensure that the commercial objectives of each medicine are realized through adherence to the highest ethical, legal and regulatory standards · Provides scientific input to the Market Access strategies and tactics · Communicates the value of the MA function to internal stakeholders (championing cross functional working, and working with the Global and IDM teams and Country president) · Communicates the value of the Medical Affairs function to external stakeholders, aligning with customer needs, enhancing reputation and bringing medical insights into the organization · Champions innovation in medical content dissemination via digital channels and congress strategies. Drives adoption of new tools and frameworks for medical excellence and operational efficiency. Build Organizational Capability and Management of People · Leads, engages and enhances the performance of the UK Medical Affairs Teams through coaching and by direct example · Responsible for talent management within the broader medical function, ensuring that Pfizer medical colleagues in the UK organization are aware of opportunities to support their growth and development across the organization. ’One Pfizer’ · Represents the immediate point of reference to the Country President for medical issues, advises the Country President on medical issues and assures appropriate resolution · Chairs the Country Medical Council with the purpose of maintaining compliance and information flow as well as to facilitate the resolution of issues that arise within the broader Category medical teams and partner functions · Represents the Category medical and partner functions in the UK Management Forum and ensures direct representation when appropriate · Addresses and leads responses to Regulatory, Safety, and/or Clinical issues with potential impact on public health, or a potential impact on the organization's reputation, working with respective functions as necessary · Represents Pfizer in industry bodies and associations · Coordinates and is responsible for the ‘one medical voice of Pfizer’ when interacting with important external customers including professional societies, medical schools, media, government and payers In-Country Compliance · Ensures consistent application of local regulations and standards on promotional material, medical and scientific content, transparency of grant payments and MAPP compliance across the medical teams in-country. · Supports local inspections as defined by the local inspection action plan(s). · Sponsors audits/inspections under Medical Division accountability. · Provides support for audits on Platform Lines as required. · Ensures that adverse events and product complaints are identified and reported as per Corporate and Regulatory standard procedure, including “Your Reporting Responsibilities” (YRR) training Required skills, education and experience · Doctoral degree (MD preferred) or postgraduate qualification (such as PhD or Pharm D) with solid education and experience, including significant experience in pharmaceutical industry · Inspirational leader whom colleagues trust and look up to - thrives on transformation and understands and articulates change · Track record of building non-traditional, innovative medical affairs organizations at the cutting-edge of science, medical mission, and evolving trends · Communicates scientific information concisely and effectively, adapting to the audience’s needs, adept at scientific storytelling. Senior medical country point of contact for global, regional medical affairs, R&D, platform, commercial, regulatory, and access teams.
