Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Physiotherapist to work in our Buckinghamshire Community Learning Disability Health Team. This full- or part‑time, band 5 position involves visiting service users at day centres, clinics and homes across the county and managing your own caseload of adults with learning disabilities. A passion for working with adults with learning disabilities and the ability to deliver physiotherapy in a creative, engaging manner is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide physiotherapy assessment and treatment interventions for adults with learning disabilities on the three main pathways: complex postural management, falls and mobility, and community‑level respiratory care.
* Plan, implement and evaluate individual and group interventions, collaborating with service users to achieve therapeutic goals.
* Maintain accurate clinical records and complete necessary outcome measures.
* Work with the multidisciplinary team and maintain compliance with Trust policies.
* Participate in the Band 5 Physiotherapy Development Programme and CPD activities.
* Conduct assessments, manual treatments and implement interventions as part of the care plan.
Key Relationships
* Collaboration with physiotherapy team members and the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Interaction with service users and carers across community settings.
* Liaison with voluntary or other organisations as appropriate.
Qualifications
* Essential
o Physiotherapy degree
o HCPC registration
o UK professional registration (HCPC)
o Full driving licence with access to a car (unless meeting the Disability Discrimination Act definition)
o Computer literacy (Word, Excel, patient record systems, e‑learning packages, PowerPoint)
o Ability to work alongside service users involving moderate physical effort and compliance with the Manual Handling Policy
o Ability to manage own workload and determine priorities
* Desirable
o Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
o Experience with people with mental health problems or learning disabilities
o Completed student placements in community‑based settings
o Desire to learn and expand experience within learning disabilities and complex health
o Experience and understanding of MDT/team working
o Experience using professional assessment tools
o Documented evidence of continuing professional development
o Previous placement in learning disabilities
o Strong written and verbal communication skills
o Understanding of best practice in physiotherapy
o Basic knowledge of AAC and communication difficulties
o Ability to respond and adjust to user needs
Physical Skills
* Knowledge of current best practice in physiotherapy and ability to apply it in community settings.
